A DTC activewear brand built around a genuine community of yoga teachers, coaches, and everyday athletes. The kind of brand where customers post more content than the brand does. A mid-seven-figure brand built almost entirely through organic growth. Every attempt to scale paid underperformed.
The brand's organic content worked because it was real. Their paid creative was studio-shot, polished, and felt like an ad. Paid was reaching the same type of customer who already engaged with the brand organically, but the creative felt completely different. Paid creative generated weaker engagement and higher CPMs. The brand repeatedly pulled back from paid because the creative never felt native to what had made the brand successful organically.
Build a paid creative system that felt native to the brand rather than in conflict with it.
Stopped producing paid-specific creative entirely. Built a process for licensing content from the most engaged customers and coaches in the community. Briefed a network of micro-coaches to document real training sessions with the product in use, raw, unscripted, and shot on phones. Cut these into paid creative with minimal editing. Used the community as the creative department.
"We were spending money to make content that made us look like every other activewear brand. Our customers were already making better content for free. We just had to ask." Co-founder, activewear brand
For community-led brands, paid creative can underperform when it feels disconnected from the content and identity that built the community in the first place. Some of the strongest creative assets may already be coming from your customers and community.
